Chesterfords Preschool Weekly Timetable

Typical Day

Welcome to preschool

Children come into the setting, say ‘goodbye’ to their parent/carer and go into the hall to self register. The children find their own name card and stick it to the themed board, before sitting down on a coloured spot for circle-time and registration.

Circle time

Everyone sings our ‘Good Morning Song’.  The register is taken and we use the practice our counting and number recognition.  We sing and sign our ‘Weather Song’ and change our Calendar/Weather Board.  We discuss current activities and themes with the children. Fortnightly, we focus on a new colour, shape and letters.

Main activities

The children can move between ‘messy areas’ or they can choose to do tidier activities around mark making & maths, games & puzzles, small world & role play. If the weather is fine, they can freely choose to play outside in the garden, with sand or ride on toys. We always have a cosy corner where the children can curl up with a book.

Snack & Story time

A quick wash of hands before helping themselves to a drink of either milk or water served alongside a selection of healthy snacks. Then it's on to the carpet to predict part of a story, solve a problem, or help tell the story using props and puppets.

Show and tell

We look at our ‘Show and Tell Basket’ where the children bring in items from home and are encouraged to talk about them and show them to the other children.

We say goodbye to any friends who are going home at 12.00pm, and hello to any that are joining us for the afternoon!

The children bring in a packed lunch and sit down with the staff and their friends and enjoy a relaxed and healthy lunch together.

Afternoon session

We have four sessions in the Nature Space, our outdoor classroom. The children are split by age as to who goes in which session, and the children not in the nature space will be doing more activities in the hall. The outdoor sessions run regardless of weather (unless extreme) so wellies and a coat are a must! Then we always sing the "Goodbye Song" before being collected by our parents and carers and showing them all our work.

Story time & goodbye

Nearly the end of the day! Children at the Nature Space will come back to the hall and children enjoying the activities will come together on the carpet for a story and singing the 'Goodbye Song'.

Children are very active. Staff plan carefully for outdoor play to make sure they provide for all the different areas of learning.”
